Ajahn Juan was born on 10th July, 1923 (BE 2463) in Amnat Charoen Ubon Ratchathani. His parents were Mr. La and Mrs.Wa (Sakuldern Wongchan). He has 7 siblings.At the age of 21, he ordained under the Dhammayut tradition under Phra Kru Thatsawisutthi and received the ordination name of "Kulajsettho".When he was 14 he received a meditation book from Phra Ajahn Singh Khattayakmo from a pilgriimage where he was fascinated by the book.Later he self-learned meditation from the book until his mind was luminous. In the year BE2488,he studied under Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta for five years.He used to go tudong (wandering in the forests) with Luang Pu Khao Analayo of Wat Tam Klong Liao, Udon Thani.

He was a very powerful and influential monkin his days but his life was tragically cut short in the plane crash on 27th April, 1981 (BE2523) on flight TG231 from Udon Thani to Bangkok.

After finishing his meal, Ajahn Juan gargles his mouth, and at the same time,the fire emitted from his alm's bowl. (Ajahn Juan has mastered several meditation techniques as taught by Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta)
