Phra Ajahn Plien Panyapatipo was born on 16th November, 1933 (Rooster Year) at Koakdon Village, Koaksi Subdistrict, Sawang Dandin District, Sakhon Nakorn Province. His father's name is "Ging" and his mother's name is  Oradee. Phra Ajahn Plien has five brothers and one sister. He is the third child in the family. His grandfather (Koon Jooratchapakdi) and his grandmother raised him since young until he finished primary four. Once he turned 11 years old, his mother requested him to assist his father in the family business. Phra Ajahn Plien gained an interests in medicine when he was 18 years old. He started to treat patients under the guidance of the district doctor who was his relative. He also had a plan to pursue his study in Medicine at Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok but his mother preferred him to help in the family business.

Phra Ajahn Plien wanted to enter the monkhood since he was 12 years old. However, it was prolonged until it took place on 31st March, 1959 when he was 25 years old at Wat Tat Mee Chai, Koak Don Village, Koak Sri Sub District, Sawang Dandin District, Sakorn Nakhon Province. His Preceptor was Phra Kru Adul Sangkakit. And Phra Kru Pipit Dhamma Soontom was his ordination proclaiming teacher. Phra Ajahn Suparb Dhammapanyo was his teacher for the formal ordination. Later Phra Ajahn Plien passed the 3rd Level of Dhamma Doctrine Exams after the thrid  year  of his ordination.

After his first rainy retreat (Vassa), Phra Ajahn Plien started his austere practice in search for enlightenment (nibbana) in various provinces where he met many renowned masters in the North Eastern, Southern and Northern Thailand. Phra Ajahn Plien received his trainings and tutelage for his Dhamma practice from were Luang Pu Prom Jirapoonyo, Luang Pu tate Dhamma Rangsi, Luang Pu tuer Arjaladhammo and Luang Pu Waen Sujinno. He also learned from other teachers that included Phra Ajahn Juan Kulachetcho, Luang Pu Khao Analayo, Luang Pu Kamdee Papaso, Luang Pu Chob Thanasamo, Kruba Intajakraksa Intajakko, Luang Pu Saam Akinjano, Phra Ajahn Won Utamo, Luang Pu Waan Dhanapalo, Luang Pu Parng Jittakutto, (These Great Dhammayut Masters who taught Phra Ajahn Plien are mostly senior disciples of Phra Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta).

Phra Ajahn Plien Panyapatipo passed away on 15th February, 2018 at 15.03 at the age of 84 years old
